The Violinist

Siong Quen and I met about 14 years ago.

I remember her as the very musically talented girl and performed at several occasions in school. At the age of 12, she left Malaysia for England to pursue her study in music at Chetham’s School of Music. I was not very good at keeping in touch with people then, but we remained connected via Facebook. It was definitely a nice surprise to receive her message regarding photos for her music portfolio! When she came over to Nottingham for the photo session, we talked for hours over lunch, and reminisced about kiddy days. We chatted and laughed so much and I must say that it felt extremely good to catch up with an old friend.

We used to go over to each other’s homes; played together while our moms talked about mom stuff and had meals together. A young, simple life was what we had. Somebody please always remind me about this, and I have also made a mental note to myself to always try to keep in touch with the precious people who have walked into my life!

Siong Quen now travels around Europe to perform at concerts and is still studying at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester.
